3 October 2019. A three-day workshop on climate modeling was held in Ashgabat

A three-day workshop on climate modeling for employees of the Hydrometeorological service of the Ministry of agriculture and environmental protection of Turkmenistan was held in Ashgabat. It was attended by specialists and experts involved in writing National communications for the UN framework Convention on climate change.

Modeling future changes in ecosystems, agriculture, and desertification requires knowledge of future climate change, or data short- and medium-term weather changes. You must be able to process the output of climate and weather models. Therefore, participants practiced working with specialized programs Weather Research and Forecast, Python, and Panoply. They also learned how to open and visualize NetCDF (Network Common Data Form), files and place spatial data on the map.

Processing and visualizing climate model modeling data in NetCDF format will be an important tool in preparing National communications for the UN framework Convention on climate change.
