National Workshop on launching the piloting process for the forest sector reform in the Kyrgyz Republic. State Agency on Environmental Protection and Forestry (SAEPF) with the support of EU FLERMONECA Project organized on 29th of July the national workshop for the official launch of the piloting process. The aim of the envisaged reform is to increase the total forest area and to foster its ecological functions as well as economic benefits through sustainable forest and pasture management. Key elements are based on decentralization and partnership between public sector (forestry enterprises, local and district administration), the private sector and communities.
The workshop were attended by all key stakeholders-representatives of state agencies, development partners, local institutions and foresters. Mr. Adylbek Ormonov, Director of Forest Ecosystem and Protected Areas Development Department of SAEPF, presented the piloting process and its implementation mechanisms both at national and local levels. National experts, presented drafts of regulations of the national level Steering Committee and local level Joint Forest Management Councils for the piloting process.
Participants of the workshop discussed presented documents and provided their comments for further revision and finalization of regulations.
